The Trading Journey

Khadijah heard of Muhammad's reputation for honesty and trustworthiness and hired him to lead her trading caravan to Syria. She sent her servant Maysarah to observe him during the journey. Maysarah reported Muhammad's exceptional honesty, kindness to all, and the unusual blessings that accompanied the journey - the caravan returned with double the expected profits.

The Proposal

Impressed by his character and the profitable trade, Khadijah, through her friend Nafisah bint Munabbih, inquired if Muhammad would consider marriage. Despite Khadijah being 40 years old and Muhammad being 25, their union was built on a foundation of mutual respect, admiration, and shared values - qualities that would sustain them through the most challenging moments of prophethood.

A Blessed Partnership

Their marriage lasted 25 years until Khadijah's death in the 'Year of Sorrow' (619 CE). She was his first supporter when he received revelation, trembling and fearful in the Cave of Hira. She was the first person to accept Islam. She was a constant source of comfort, spending her wealth in support of the message. The Prophet never forgot her love and spoke of her with deep affection throughout his life.

I never felt jealous of any woman as much as I did of Khadijah, though I never saw her. The Prophet used to mention her frequently. Once I said, 'Has she not been replaced by a better one?' He became angry and said, 'No! By Allah, she has not been replaced with a better one. She believed in me when people rejected me, supported me with her wealth when people deprived me, and Allah gave me children through her when He did not give me children through any other wife.'

Her Place in Paradise

The Prophet received divine news that Khadijah would have a palace in Paradise made of pearls, where there would be no noise or fatigue. Angel Jibreel himself conveyed Allah's greetings to her - an honor given to no other woman.

Jibreel came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, here is Khadijah coming with a dish of food. When she reaches you, give her greetings from her Lord and from me, and give her the glad tidings of a palace in Paradise made of pearls, wherein there is no noise or fatigue.'
